Handmade modern Australian quilting FAQ

What’s your quilting process?

Flip & Co quilts have a modern vibe, anchored in a traditional skill. My quilts are all handmade by me which makes each one unique to you. They become heirloom pieces for your family and because they are handmade, there may be imperfections – that’s how you know they’ve been made by a real person. I design and make my quilts in my farmhouse studio in Condobolin, NSW. Each quilt begins with an idea drawn from the landscape around me. I might be inspired by the colour of the sky at a certain time of day, or an unexpected shape on the land, or even a pop of colour I see around my home. Creativity sits at the heart of what I do. I truly love the process of dreaming up new colour schemes and quilt blocks and putting them together for you. I use a sewing machine for my quilts because I love the precision it gives. I adore a hand finish and always bind each one by hand with a needle and thread – it’s my favourite part of the process.

Can I custom order a quilt?

Yes, of course! I love making custom quilts that suit my natural style because they are so heartfelt. Custom quilts turn out best when you have a particular colour, style and size in mind and are happy for me to design something with my signature look. We can work through choosing fabrics together. I am able to send you swatches so you can make the final decision – although this does make the process a little longer. Turnaround is usually around 4-5 weeks and we can work out the dates when your order is placed. Please note that a 50% deposit is required for all custom quilts and the final 50% is payable on completion.

Is there anything I need to know when choosing my quilt size?

Yes, especially if you are placing a custom order. I encourage you to consider different sizes based on how you would like your quilt to lay on the bed. Head to my blog post that explains what to consider when choosing your quilt size.

How long does each quilt take to make?

That depends on the quilt design, fabrics, size and complexity. As an example, a cot or single bed quilt can take between 4-6 weeks. I carefully consider the quality and fabric for each quilt so that I can create something you’ll love and that stands the test of time. I believe that a little extra time on fabric selection means that your quilt will last for years to come. I want to see each of my quilts used, washed – and mended if they ever need it!

Where do you find your supplies?

I research worldwide to find the best materials and my preference is always to shop within Australia. Fortunately, I’m able to get most supplies in Australia. I especially look to support small businesses and I buy organic where possible. You’ll find a list of my favourites on my suppliers page

How long does it take to receive my quilt once it’s finished?

Once the last thread has been knotted, your quilt is wrapped and slipped into an eco friendly bag. I’ll post it to you within two business days of purchase (or final payment for custom orders). The reality of living in regional Australia and relying on Australia Post means that delivery times can vary. It might be a few days... or a few more. Ha!
